A Colorful Sri Lankan New Year Festival at the Vihara: This Sunday from 8:30 A.M.

2018 Sri Lankan New Year festival at the Vihara will be one of the most exciting and colorful events. An Avurudu Thorana will be erected inside by the Vihara members from Conroe area. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with the auspicious ritual of boiling milk.

8: 45 am: අලුත් අවුරුදු කෑම මේසය for all

9:00 am: Children’s dramas and performances

10: 00 am: Traditional performances by adults:

රබන් කවි by parents
රබන් පද by the music class
වෙස් නැටුම by Hasitha Silva

10:40 am:   දරුවන් විසින් දෙමාපියන්ට බුලත් දීම

10: 50 am:  හිසතෙල් ගෑම

11:00 am: Children’s outdoor games    

1:00 pm: Lunch prepared by Madura, Dasun, and Danushka.

They will provide a buffet cooked at the Vihara premises the same day morning.

2:00 pm: Children’s and adults’ games continue . . .

4:00 pm: Winners receive gift cards and certificates

The following fundraising events will be held from 10:00 am: 

1. Traditional exotic food sale (to eat or to take away): All food items will be fried, cooked, or baked afresh at the Vihara since the morning.

2. Lunch packets sale–To take home for dinner or the next day. Each packet includes a meal of vegan ham curry, dhal curry, and organic white rice. 

3. Plant sale: Some varieties of vegetable Plants are still available. Notably, we have healthy and strong Sri Lankan curry leaf plants. Some are in clay pots with clay trays and decorated–great for indoors!

4. Aluth Avurudu food sale: Most of the foods are gone. Only a few items still remain.
